Australia’s inflation rate is at its highest point since 1999 but that won’t stop IT leaders investing in cyber security.
According to a OnePoll survey commissioned by Citrix, four in ten Australian IT leaders say data protection is a top priority for IT security innovation, ahead of digital transformation and hybrid work. This is especially true in Queensland (63 per cent), South Australia (58 per cent) and New South Wales (50 per cent).
Martin Creighan, Managing Director, Citrix Australia and New Zealand, said:
“It’s not surprising that security is one of the top priorities for IT spending, as Australian IT leaders need to look for every opportunity to balance effective security and employee experience.
Security complexity has been compounded further by hybrid work and the increase in workers accessing the network from difference locations and devices. Simple things like outdated technologies and unapproved application downloads can easily expose an organisation or employee’s private data to a security threat, and just one unauthorised user could open the door for attackers to move unrestricted throughout the entire network. Investing in the correct security solutions and putting zero-trust principles in place is key to ensuring employees have access to company apps and data, without compromising on data safety.”
It’s clear that IT leaders throughout the APJ region are recognising security as one of the most important priorities for innovation. They are looking to cloud-delivered solutions that incorporate zero-trust principles to enable employees to work in a secure and productive manner.”
Other key findings include:
- Data protection is the security category most likely to be improved by inflation-induced budget adjustments, as 63 per cent of Australian IT leaders expect an increase in spending in this area, followed by cloud security (39 per cent) and network security (37 per cent). This is especially important as cybercrime was estimated to have cost the Australian economy $42 billion in the 2020-2021 financial year.
- Over a third of Australian IT leaders believe inflation will increase the risk levels of an IT threat due to reduced security readiness of organisations and the increasing number of outdated hardware and applications used by customers and partners.
- The research found that security innovation across Australia aligns with expectations in Japan, where 58 per cent of Japanese IT leaders are investing in solutions to improve security.
